The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR) is a partially recognized state in the Western Sahara region of North Africa. It was declared by the Polisario Front on February 27, 1976, as the government for the Sahrawi people, who seek independence from Morocco.
The SADR’s government is based in the Sahrawi refugee camps in Tindouf, Algeria, and it claims sovereignty over the entire territory of Western Sahara. However, the region is currently administered by Morocco, which considers it an integral part of its sovereign territory.
The SADR is recognized by a number of countries and has been a member of the African Union since 1982. The United Nations considers Western Sahara a non-self-governing territory, and there have been ongoing efforts to a peaceful resolution to the conflict between the SADR and Morocco.
