Northern Cyprus, officially known as the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, is a self-declared state that is recognized only by Turkey. It is located on the northern part of the island of Cyprus and is predominantly inhabited by Turkish Cypriots. The presence of Turkish troops in the region has been a source of tension with the Republic of Cyprus and the international community. Northern Cyprus has its own government, currency, and economy, but its status as a separate entity is not recognized by the United Nations or most countries in the world.
